2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer vision.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire message from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a early access event. At the time, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that evolve every session. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but players can expect additional details as creation progresses.
